What is CBD?

You may have heard of the three letters C B D being used more and more over the last few years. CBD, an abbreviation of the word CannaBiDiol, is one of over 100 naturally occurring compounds found in the Hemp plant. The key thing about CBD is that it’s chemical composition is very similar to chemicals naturally produced by the body, endocannabinoids.

Endocannabinoids are key players in an internal bodily network of chemicals and receptors called the endocannabinoid system (ECS). The sole purpose of the ECS is to regulate our bodily functions by restoring and maintaining balance, a process known as homeostasis. The introduction of CBD into our ECS supports our body’s natural ability to look after itself.

CBD is the latest elixir in people’s health and wellness routines. It is non-toxic, non-additive, safe, legal, and doesn’t get you ‘high’. The number of people using it is growing fast, there are currently around 1.3 million daily users in the UK.

The current legislation in the UK requires companies who sell CBD to market products as food supplements and to make no claims regarding their medical potential. We therefore strongly encourage people to do their own research.

What we can say is that CBD based supplementation is taking the world by storm and is beneficial for supporting the symptoms of many health issues, it may even provide a natural alternative for pain relief.
